HC Deb 07 March 1980 vol 980 c347W
Mr. Cryer

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will ensure that all low-level Royal Air Force flights in the vicinity of Keighley are halted, in view of the proximity of such flights to Leeds-Bradford airport.

Mr. Pattie

No. Military low flying is essential in the Keighley area. Arrangements exist to separate this activity from civil traffic using Leeds-Bradford airport, which is protected by a special rules zone and the associated Halifax control area.

The incident of 3 March clearly did not result from low flying—which takes place below 2,000 feet—since the pilot who reported it has stated that he was flying above 5,000 feet when other aircraft passed above him.
