HC Deb 05 March 1980 vol 980 cc189-90W
28. Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much financial assistance has been given to the textile industry in Dundee in each of the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the level of assistance the Government propose to offer over the next two years.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

In addition to regional development grants which are the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Industry, offers of selective financial assistance amounting to £1.6 million have been made during the last five years under section 7 of the Industry Act 1972 to companies in the Dundee area whose projects fall into the appropriate standard industrial classification order.

We are prepared to consider for assistance any further viable projects which come forward from companies.
