HC Deb 03 March 1980 vol 980 cc44-5W
26. Mr. Renton

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what action he proposes to take in the light of the growing protectionism being shown by the United States of America against imports of a range of products from Great Britain as a member of the European Economic Community.

Mr. Nott

The United States steel industry is pressing for protection from imports, but I am not aware that similar pressures are widespread in United States industry. I have discussed these issues with Governor Askew, the United States trade representative, and we agree that Governments must co-operate to solve international trade problems with the minimum of disruption.
