HC Deb 02 June 1980 vol 985 cc512-3W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis on the incident on Thursday 1 May when a group of demonstrators outside the Royal Albert Hall knelt down in the road and stopped the traffic; how many were arrested and charged with causing an obstruction; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Brittan

The Commissioner tells me that 22 people were arrested on 1 May during the course of demonstrations near the Albert Hall, in an area which the police had cordoned off to traffic. One person was charged with obstructing the highway.
