HC Deb 07 July 1980 vol 988 c67W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, in view of the connection between the use of sun tan products containing oil of bergamot in an undistilled form and the incidence of dermatitis, whether he will ban its use in the United Kingdom.

Mrs. Sally Oppenheim

I have been asked to reply.

I understand from the medical advisers in the Department of Health and Social Security that they have no evidence linking the incidence of photodermatitis with undistilled oil of bergamot used in sun tan products. The question of prohibiting the supply of such products on these grounds does not therefore arise.
