HC Deb 07 July 1980 vol 988 c65W
Mr. Stott

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many sufferers of byssinosis have claimed industrial disease benefits: and how many have been successful in their claims since 1975.

Mr. Prentice

I regret that our records do not show how many people in all have claimed disablement benefit for byssinosis. However, the following table shows the number of claimants since 1975 who have satisfied the appropriate occupational requirements and been referred for examination by pneumoconiosis medical boards, and the number in whom the disease has been diagnosed:

All examinations
1975 451
1976 337
1977 266
1978 246
1979 268

Disease diagnosed
1975 156
1976 102
1977 87
1978 78
1979 75
