§ Mr. Kershawasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, in the light of the fact that, under the arrangements for the admission of overseas students who are nationals of EEC countries, inhabitants of French overseas territories will be included, whether he proposes to extend similar privileges to students from British colonies or associated territories.
§ Dr. BoysonThe arrangements to which my hon. Friend refers relate to persons who have been resident or ordinarily resident respectively, depending on whether or not a new course is involved, in the area currently comprising the European Economic Community, for three years prior to the course in question. That area includes the French overseas departments but not other French overseas territories. This is in pursuance of our obligations as a member of the European Community. My right hon. and learned Friend has no plans to extend the concession to other categories of overseas students.
