HC Deb 20 February 1980 vol 979 c235W
Mr. Spriggs

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will undertake an investigation into the allegation made by Mr. Houghton that his invalid benefit was suspended, and at a later date stopped, as a result of incorrect evidence which was later again used by the local appeal tribunal; if he will re-examine the evidence and check its veracity; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Prentice

It is for the independent adjudicating authorities who decide claims to benefit to assess the evidence and its validity. Both the insurance officer and the local tribunal disallowed Mr. Houghton's claim to invalidity benefit. He has the right of appeal to the commissioner.
