HL Deb 14 February 1980 vol 405 cc475-6WA
Lord UNDERHILL

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What were the answers to the four questions set out in Section 24 on page 5 of the Report of the Non-Departmental Public Bodies which led to the decision to abolish immediately the Electoral Advisory Conference and the Conference on Local Government Electoral Law.

Lord BELSTEAD

Experience has shown that the valuable functions carried out by both the Electoral Advisory Conference, which last met in 1973, and the Conference on Local Government Electoral Law, which last met in 1972, could be discharged more effiectively byad hoc consultations with those represented on these bodies and others directly concerned. For this reason, there is no substantial loss or disadvantage in winding up either or both of these bodies.
