asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps they are taking to ensure a fair trial for Mr. Sainsbury who has been held in custody for 2½ years in the Lebanon.

Following our representations to bring this case to court, the trial was formally opened on 24th January and will resume on 26th February. Mr. Sainsbury is legally represented and our embassy have ensured that interpretation facilities are provided. Our consul will observe the trial.
