§ Mr. Greenwayasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) if he is satisfied with the adequacy of the current provision for religious education in the light of the percentages given in table 8 of his Department's statistical bulletin 6/80, The Secondary Staffing Survey: Basic Data on Teaching and Tuition; and what steps he is taking to improve the position;
(2) what proposals he has for developing and improving religious education in schools.
§ Dr. BoysonAs stated in reply to a question from my hon. Friend the Member for Melton (Mr. Latham) 25 November—[Vol. 994, c. 90]—a Government statement on the curriculum will issue early in the new year. This will remind authorities of the need to observe the statutory requirements and will stress the importance of religious education in the curriculum.
