§ Dr. BoysonThe Department is exploring with those bodies concerned with the provision of education for adults how best, within current expenditure constraints, to maintain and improve the opportunities for adults to take up or to pursue further their education and, in particular, to acquire and update the knowledge and skills necessary to cope effectively with the increasing pace of social, economic and technological change.

§ Dr. BoysonThe total recurrent expenditure on the full and part-time education of those aged 18 and over in universities and maintained, assisted and grant-aided further education establishments in England and Wales in 1979–80 is estimated to be in the region of £2,100 million at 1980 survey prices, or approximately 25 per cent. the total recurrent expenditure on education in England and Wales in that year.
