HC Deb 09 December 1980 vol 995 c330W
31. Mr. Hal Miller

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the numbers of employees covered by the temporary short-time working compensation scheme in the West Midlands and the country as a whole.

Mr. Jim Lester

It is not possible to provide statistics for the temporary short-time working compensation (TSTWC) scheme for the West Midlands. However, during October 1980 there were 145,500 workers working short time to save 60,519 potentially redundant jobs in the Midlands and 412,300 workers working short time to save 179,911 potentially redundant jobs throughout Great Britain as a whole.
