HC Deb 09 December 1980 vol 995 c330W
32. Mr. Thomas Cox

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the number of young people to the age of 18 years currently unemployed in the Greater London area.

Mr. Jim Lester

At 9 October, the latest date for which an age analysis is available, there were 20,646 young people under the age of 18 years registered as unemployed in the Greater London area. Hon. Members will know that the youth opportunities programme exists to help this group and that my right hon. Friend has announced a major expansion of the programme for 1981–82.
