asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is his policy towards the slaughter of horses and ponies bred in the United Kingdom for meat.

When horses or ponies bred in this country are to be slaughtered, our policy is that slaughter should take place in the United Kingdom where their welfare will be protected by the specific provisions in the law.
