HC Deb 04 December 1980 vol 995 c176W
26. Mr. John Wells

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what tonnage of dessert apples has so far been imported into the United Kingdom from European Economic Community sources this season.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

The tonnage of apples, other than cider apples, imported into the United Kingdom from European Community sources between 1 July 1980—the beginning of the season — and 31 October 1980 was 62,792 compared with 84,762 tonnes in 1979. Separate figures are not available for dessert and cooking apples, but few, if any, cooking apples are imported.
