§ 28. Sir David Priceasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has received from British glasshouse growers about the high price of British energy compared with their Dutch competitors; and what reply he has given them.
§ Mr. Peter WalkerI met the president of the National Farmers Union and the leaders of the glasshouse industries on 2 December. On the question of comparative energy costs to growers here and in Holland, I told them that I fully supported the Commission's decision to lake action under article 93(2) of the Treaty of Rome and that I would continue to press for this to be completed with the utmost urgency.
§ 38. Mr. Marlandasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps have been taken to ensure that the British horticulture industry is suffering no trading disadvantage with the United Kingdom's European partners.
§ Mr. Peter WalkerThe practices of our European partners are kept under constant scrutiny, and I have always vigorously pursued the interests of the United Kingdom horticulture industry by action through the Council of Agriculture Ministers or the Commission to combat any breaches of the rules of fair trading within the Community as laid down in the Rome Treaty.
