HC Deb 08 August 1980 vol 990 cc523-4W
Mr. Alexander

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what representations he has received regarding the funding of the Clifton Spinney residential training centre for the blind in Nottingham; and if, in view of the excellent work in rehabilitating blind people which is being carried out at the centre and the concern being expressed over the proposed closure, he will ask the officials in his Department to seek a solution to the centre's financial problems, possibly in the area of joint financing.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

I refer my hon. Friend to my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Aberdeen, South (Mr. Sproat) on 6 August. Up to that date, I had received three letters on the matter, two of which were from hon. Members. I understand from the RNIB that their reasons for closing the centre next year are not simply financial and they have not, therefore, approached the Department for assistance.
