HC Deb 06 August 1980 vol 990 c195W
Mr. Miscampbell

asked the Minister of Transport if he will issue guidance to those responsible for the maintenance of motorway verges to sow the seeds of British wild flowers along them, in the light of the fact that many species are endangered by modern farming methods and the verges provide a uniquely favourable habitat.

Mr. Fowler

I welcome this suggestion. Our economies in verge maintenance have already resulted in a welcome resurgence of wild flowers along motorway verges and I will look at the possibilities of including indigenous wild flower seed in our planting plans.
