asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many firms in the Aston employment office area have (a) closed entirely, (b) notified their intention to close and (c) notified redundancies; and how many in the six months ending 30 June.

Information regarding the number of firms which have closed entirely is not available. However, the number of proposed closures and redundancies notified to my Department under the redundancy handling provisions of the Employment Protection Act 1975 for the Aston employment office area from 1 January to 30 June 1980 is as follows:

(a) Proposed closures 96 employees at three establishments (included in (b) below)
