HC Deb 03 April 1980 vol 982 c354W
Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what action he has taken on the recommendation contained in his Department's report "Improved Arrangements To Combat Pollution At Sea" concerning the purchase of oil recovery devices.

Mr. Tebbit

Contracts have been let on behalf of my Department for the initial purchase of three springsweep systems and one Force 7 Ocean system.

Initial trials have shown that both these systems have potential for the effective recovery of oil from the sea surface in the turbulent waters surrounding our coasts.

This purchase will enhance our counter pollution capability and will enable the systems to be evaluated operationally.
