asked the Secretary of State for Trade what is his estimate of the total amount of coal imported for steel making in the current year.

Mr. Parkinson

The purpose for which goods are imported is not recorded in the Overseas Trade Statistics. However, imports of coking coal in the first nine months of this year amounted to 1,575,494 tonnes.
