asked the Secretary of State for Industry what has been the reduction in yarn spinning production by the United Kingdom cotton and allied textile industry in the period 1973 to the latest date for which figures are available, giving at total figure and figures for each year.

Production of yarn—including waste yarn—by the United Kingdom cotton and allied textiles industry fell by 20 per cent. between 1973 and 1978, from 208 million kilograms to 167 million kilograms. Detailed figures are as follows:
