HC Deb 12 November 1979 vol 973 cc416-7W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what has been the reduction in the volume or quantity of goods bleached and dyed by the finishing sector of the United Kingdom textile industry in the period 1973 to 1978.

Mr. David Mitchell

The quantity of piece goods—including knitted goods—bleached and dyed by the finishing sector of the cotton and allied textiles industry fell by 4 per cent. between 1973 and 1978, from 802 million linear metres to 774 million linear metres. These figures, published by the textile statistics bureau, include only a few firms from the Northern Ireland industry.
