asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the annual cost of the family expenditure survey.

[pursuant to his reply, 8 November 1979]: The latest calendar year for which figures of actual costs are available is 1978. In that year the total cost of the family expenditure survey was £737,000. This figure includes the costs incurred by the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys in carrying out the fieldwork and coding and the costs incurred by the Department of Employment in computer processing and publication of the results.
