HC Deb 12 November 1979 vol 973 cc391-2W
Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he intends next to consider the entitlement of Irish citizens to vote in United Kingdom general elections.

Mr. Whitelaw

As my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister stated in her reply to a question by my hon. Friend the Member for Bridlington (Mr. Townend) on 1 November, the Government have no proposals to change the unique position of Irish citizens living in this country who, although not British subjects, enjoy the privilege of voting in our elections.—[Vol. 972, c. 1445.]
