§ Mr. John Grantasked the Secretary of State for Trade by how many he will reduce the size of the Civil Service through the abolition of the Price Commission.
§ Mr. ParkinsonPrice Commission staff are not counted as part of the Civil Service. The abolition of the Commission will result in a saving of some 530 staff there, but this will be partially offset by an increase in staff in the Office of Fair Trading and the Monopolies and Mergers Commission arising from recently announced proposals for strengthening competition policy.
