HC Deb 25 May 1979 vol 967 c311W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what plans he has for containing rises in food prices over the next 12 months.

Mr. Parkinson

I refer the hon. Member to the answer which my right hon. Friend gave in the House on 21 May to the hon. Member for Wolverhampton North-East (Mrs. Short). The Government believe that prices in general are best contained by the operation of firm monetary and fiscal policies and by the strengthening of competition policy.
