HC Deb 27 March 1979 vol 965 c123W
Mr. Rhodes James

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is satisfied with the present condition of the law relating to the recruitment, employment, and legal status of "bouncers" at public houses and places of public entertainment, in view of certain recent incidents leading to severe injuries and death; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

"Bouncers" have no special status, privileges or powers under the law. I shall consider whether they should be made subject to any special controls when I have received the views of the public and of interested organisations on the Government's recently published discussion paper on the private security industry.
