Mr. Cockcroft

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what loans he authorised for the Post Office in 1978; what loans were repaid by the Post Office Corporation in 1978; and what loans he has authorised for the Post Office Corporation in 1979.

In 1978 the Secretary of State authorised two new loans from the NLF totalling £116 million (£112 million to offset premature repayment of foreign loans and £4 million to aid the financial reconstruction of Girobank).

In the calendar year 1978, the Post Office repaid loans totalling £286.4 million as follows:
