HC Deb 19 March 1979 vol 964 c423W
27. Mr. John H. Osborn

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what con sideration he has given to the request to set up an Inmos production facility in the Yorkshire and Humberside region; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Les Huckfield

This is a matter for the company and the National Enterprise Board.

28. Mr. Albert Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what account he is taking in his policy of support for the National Enterprise Board and the Inmos project and the recently announced investment plans of the General Electric Corporation, Fairchild at Neston which involves the construction of new integrated circuit manufacturing plant on Mersey-side and elsewhere.

Mr. Les Huckfield

The Government's policy towards the NEB and Inmos remains unchanged. The GEC/Fairchild and the Inmos projects are both aimed at creating a United Kingdom high volume micro-electronics manufacturing capability, and are in line with the Government's industrial strategy for this industry. They will also create jobs and have significant export growth potential.
