§ Mrs. HartThe fund was set up on a trial basis in December last year to enable heads of mission in certain countries where there is a British aid programme to approve expenditure on small-scale projects of specific developmental benefit, particularly those designed to improve basic economic and social conditions at the local community or village level. A total sum of some £700,000 has been made available for the first full year of operation. The fund will be reviewed at the end of the year and a decision taken on whether it should be continued and possibly expanded.
