HC Deb 05 March 1979 vol 963 cc518-9W
Mr. Stephen Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will now take steps to assist pharmacists now facing closure due to the effects of the Medicines (General Sale List) Order 1977 which means that many retailers will lose up to 25 per cent. of their normal potential sales.

Mr. Moyle

, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 23 February 1979; Vol. 963, c. 398], gave the following information:

Very few medicines included in the Medicines (General Sales List) Order 1977 were not already on general sale, and I have no evidence that the order has led to pharmacies losing sales on anything like the scale suggested.
