HC Deb 11 June 1979 vol 968 cc44-5W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what steps he is taking or will be taking to ensure that there is no breakdown in the supply of fuel oil for central heating systems and kerosene for individual heaters to the homes of individual disabled people and to establishments where a number of disabled people live together; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gray

As my right hon. Friend said in his statement today, the current shortfall in our supply is not great. Provided we all take seriously the need for strict economy in our use of fuel, I would not expect serious difficulties of this kind. There is, however, a need to smooth some of the patchiness in distribution; and I am urgently pursuing this with the industry. Should it be necessary for the Government to take direct action on the supply side in an emergency situation, I would seek to make due provision for the needs of the disabled.
