HC Deb 11 June 1979 vol 968 c45W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether any marketing restrictions have been placed by Her Majesty's Government on National Coal Board coking coal operations in Queensland.

Mr. Moore

The operations are at present at the exploration stage, but the National Coal Board will continue to keep in touch with me on future developments, including marketing policy.

Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what he estimates to be the differential in price between United Kingdom coking coal and that imported from Australia.

Mr. Moore

The average list price for NCB coking coal is £37.50/tonne at the pithead with, about £41/tonne for prime quality. Trade statistics for 1979 show the landed value of imports of Australian coal as ranging between £27 and £32/tonne.
