§ Mr. Wigleyasked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will undertake that at least one of the four proposed INMOS microprocessor production plants will be located in the special development area in Wales; and if he will give particular consideration to Gwynedd, in view of the expertise in electronics at the University College of North Wales, Bangor.
§ Mr. Les HuckfieldI am very conscious of the benefits that an INMOS production facility could bring to the Welsh special development areas, and to the assisted areas in general, but the location of these facilities must be a matter for the NEB and the company. I understand INMOS has commissioned consultants to make an appraisal of potential sites in the assisted areas and an announcement will be made later this year.
