HC Deb 04 April 1979 vol 965 cc889-90W
Mr. John Ellis

asked the Secretary of State for Transport in which areas in South Humberside dynamic weighing of lorries is used to calculate the weight of these vehicles in order to judge which are overloaded.

Mr. Horam

None at present, but suitable sites are being sought.

Mr. Dodsworth

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he is satisfied with the law relating to the carrying of overhanging loads by small lorries; and if he proposes to make any changes.

Mr. Horam

Restrictions and conditions on the carrying of overhanging loads are imposed by Regulation 140 of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations. In addition, Regulation 97 requires that loads are properly secured. We are not aware of any defects in these provisions, but we are willing to look into any evidence of difficulty.
