HC Deb 04 April 1979 vol 965 c890W
Mr. Allen McKay

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how he proposes to follow up recent studies on freight consolidation and transhipment in view of the contribution these could make to the efficiency of freight movement and to reducing its impact on urban areas.

Mr. William Rodgers

The work done at Cranfield under the auspices of Sir Dan Pettit's committee was partially funded by my Department, as part of the programme of work promised in the 1977 transport policy White Paper—Cmnd. 6836, paragraph 197. I am considering what direction this programme of research should now take, so that existing techniques and existing possibilities can be properly assessed.
