HC Deb 04 April 1979 vol 965 c852W
Mr. John Ellis

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many local authority houses were constructed in the Glanford district and Scunthorpe district in the constituency of Brigg and Scunthorpe in each of the last three years; and if he is satisfied with this number.

Mr. Armstrong

The reported numbers of local authority houses constructed in the Glanford and Scunthorpe districts in the last three years are:

1976 1977 1978
Glanford 135 163 35
Scunthorpe 352 97 179

It is for each local authority to formulate its building programme in the light of its own particular needs and circumstances and within the framework of overall national policies. There is, nationally, a continuing need for a substantial level of new housebuilding. We would be happier if authorities generally were making full use of the resources which we have made available to them.
