§ Mr. Muddasked the Secretary of State for Employment what were the numbers of registered unemployed in the employment districts represented by the Falmouth and Camborne parliamentary division in February 1970, February 1974, and February 1979; and what percentage these figures represent as a proportion of the total working population.
§ Mr. Golding, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 2 April 1979], gave the following answer:
The number of people registered as unemployed in the area covered by the Falmouth, Camborne, Redruth and Hayle employment offices, which together correspond closely to the Falmouth and Camborne parliamentary division, at February 1970, February 1974 and February 1979 were 1,585, 1,169 and 4,249 respectively. The corresponding unemployment rates were 5.8, 3.7 and 12.7 per cent. These rates are based on the estimated total numbers of employees (employed and unemployed) which differ from the total working population in that they exclude self-employed persons and members of HM Forces.
