Mr. Younger

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if, pursuant to his answer of 7 June 1978, Official Report, column 163, he will update the figures for Scotland for (a) police resignations, (b) retirement from the force for other causes, (c) police recruits and (d) injuries sustained by police officers while on duty.

Mr. Harry Ewing

The information for the calendar year 1978 for the first three categories is as follows (a) 454, (b) 357, (c) 1,164. In addition, in 1978 there were 1,087 injuries requiring absence from duty and 1,543 not requiring absence from duty.
