HC Deb 24 October 1978 vol 955 cc870-1W
Mr. Sainsbury

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many loans have been made to date under the Fire Precautions (Loans) Act 1973; and what is their total value.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

We do not have information about the number of loans made but, according to information provided by local authorities, 49 district councils had granted to hotels and boarding houses under the Fire Precautions (Loans) Act 1973 loans to the total value of £127,504 up to 31st March 1978.

Mr. Sainsbury

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is his estimate of the number of premises that would require a certificate under the Fire Precautions Act 1971 if an order were to be made extending the application of the Act to residential accommodation for the elderly, on a basis similar to the Fire Precautions (Hotels and Boarding Houses) Order 1972.

Dr. Summerskill

There are some 5,600 registered premises of this kind in England and Wales.
