HC Deb 08 May 1978 vol 949 c395W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what has been the total cost of running the Burnham Committees, including all main constituent costs of any sort whatsoever, such as expenditure on their own programmes, wages, rent, heating and lighting, maintenance, &c., in the latest 12 months for which figures are available; and what are the projected costs for 1978–79.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

The cost of running the Burnham Committees in the financial year 1977–78 is estimated at £28,000 at 1977 prices and the cost in the current year is expected to be of the same order. This figure covers provision of accommodation and secretarial services for meetings of the Committees and the preparation of statutory instruments and documents to give effect to the Committees' recommendations. It does not cover the costs of bodies represented on the Committees and therefore does not include the secretarial costs of the teachers' and management panels or the costs relating to the attendance of members at meetings.
