HC Deb 04 May 1978 vol 949 cc263-4W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the total cost of running the National Dock Labour Board, including all main constituent costs of any sort whatsoever, such as expenditure on its own programmes, wages, rent, heating and lighting, main- tenance, etc., in the latest 12 months for which figures are available; and what are the projected costs for 1978–79.

Mr. John Grant

The total expenditure of the National Dock Labour Board in the year ending 25th December 1976, the latest year for which figures are available, was £3,130,834. Further details are given in the accounts for 1976 published as part of the Board's annual report and I am arranging for copies to be placed in the Library. The Board's costs are financed by a levy on employers in the industry.

The Board expects its costs for 1978 to be similar to 1976, after adjustment for inflation and increases to staff pay within the pay guidelines.
