Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the total cost of running the Manpower Services Commission, including all main constituent costs of any sort whatsoever, such as expenditure on its own programmes, wages, rent, heating and lighting, maintenance, etc., in the latest 12 months for which figures are available; and what are the projected costs for 1978–79.

Mr. Golding

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that its provisional 1977–78 expenditure figure, including expenditure by the Commission's employment and training services is £433 million. The estimate for 1978–79 is £547.5 million.
