asked the Secretary of State for Trade what discussions he has now had with shipowners, shippers, and the appropriate unions about the EEC draft proposal on a Community approach to the International Code of Conduct for Shipping, with a view to assessing the advantages for British and European shipping interests; and if he will make a statement.

My Department is still in close contact with both sides of the industry about the Commission proposals on the United Nations Code of Conduct for Liner Conferences.

We have not yet completed our assessment.
