asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what number and proportion of people under the age of 25 years were diagnosed as suffering from deafness in each of the years 1947, 1957, 1967 and 1977.

While I appreciate my hon. Friend's underlying concern about damage to young people's hearing, I regret that available information does not enable us to estimate numbers of people diagnosed as having a hearing impairment.
