asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many boarding schools are maintained by local education authorities in England and Wales.

Miss Margaret Jackson

In January 1977 there were 114 maintained schools with boarding accommodation for non-handicapped pupils and 328 maintained boarding special schools for handicapped pupils.

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) how many pupils attend boarding schools in England and Wales;

(2) how many pupils attend boarding schools maintained by local education authorities in England and Wales.
