HC Deb 08 December 1978 vol 959 cc151-2W
Mr. Holland

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list in the Official Report the full-time occupation and the part-time official appointments held by the chairman of the Sports Council.

Mr. Shore:

Mr. Jeeps is a Cambridgeshire fruit farmer whose only part-time official appointment is that of chairman of the Sports Council.

Mr. Holland

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether any part of the 62.8 per cent. increase during the past two years in the annual pay of the chairman of the Sports Council was due to an adjustment of the time input basis of calculation; and, if so, if he will specify the change in time input basis and the increase in annual gross emoluments directly attributable to this.

Mr. Shore:

Earlier this year the time input basis for this office, the demands of which have increased in recent years, was formally recognised as being three days a week rather than the previous two. Part of the apparent salary increase over the past two years reflects this. The actual increase in the per diem rate for this job over the past two years was 12.2 per cent. The increase in the per diem rate since 1972, when the substantive salary was last revised, has been 44.9 per cent. Over the same period, the wages index has risen by 150.7 per cent.
