§ Mr. Lomasasked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) how many dwelling houses have power circuits which were installed in 1939 or before and how many are now equipped with up-to-date circuits;
(2) how many dwelling houses there are in the area covered by the Kirklees metropolitan council; and how many of those have power circuits which were installed in 1939 or before;
(3) what is his estimate of the average life of electrical installations in dwelling houses.
§ Mr. Armstrong:Precise information on the number of dwellings with pre-war power circuits either nationally or in Kirklees is not available. Depending on the circumstances in each individual case, any wiring installed before 1950 may now be in need of renewal; I am not aware that there are significant problems with more modern, plastic insulated installations.
§ Mr. Lomasasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in formulating his policy on the proposals contained in the Green Paper on housing policy that repair grants should be more widely available, he will take steps to ensure that improvement grants should be made for electrical re-wiring in its own right.
